Mini Hotel, Genoa

Right in the heart of Genoa, the Mini Hotel lies on Via Lomellini, opposite Mazzini's house (now a museum dedicated to the Italian Risorgimento) and within easy reach of the multifarious attractions of this buzzing port. From here, you are within five minutes' walk both of the old port and the Aquarium. The congress centre, fair and exhibition centre are also close by. Genoa Principe railway station is 200 metres from the hotel, allowing you to easily get around the city and out to explore this region of Liguria.

Rooms at this two-star Genoa hotel have TV and telephone, and a bathroom with shower and toilet. Singles, doubles and triples are available. There is a 24-hour front desk, bar and parking (fee required). The hotel is near the university and main shopping area. There is a huge amount to enjoy in this ancient city, which can trace its history back to the Ligure tribe of the sixth and fifth centuries BC. It was a powerful maritime empire during the early Middle Ages, becoming a Republic on the basis of its seapower. Christopher Columbus is perhaps the city's most famous son.

The city has been hugely regenerated in recent years, and adds a lively restaurant, bar and club culture around the harbour to its historic and cultural delights. Sights include the Opera and the Doges' Palace. There is the house where Columbus is said to have been born. And there is Via Garibaldi in the old town, a street of Mannerist palazzi from the 16th century, now protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. See too the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, and the marvellous old harbour (Porto Antico) now transformed by architect Renzo Piano.
