Park Hotel Montigeto, Passignano Sul Trasimeno: lying close to the shores of Lake Trasimeno and about two kilometres from the centre of town, this Umbrian hotel offers studios, one-bedroom apartments, suites and standard rooms. The Umbrian town of Passignano sul Trasimeno arranges itself along the northern shore of Lake (Lago) Trasimeno, a predominantly modern town around a medieval core. Transport links are very good, with plenty of buses and trains hooking up to Perugia and Terontola. This is the spot where the Romans suffered their famous defeat by Hannibal in 217BC - 16,000 of them were slain alongside their commander Consul Flaminius. Nearby we have the villages of Tuoro and Castel Rigone. This latter is especially worth a visit, sitting in the mountains and having super views from its flower-decked medieval centre. The main event in Passignano is the lake of course, and there are boat trips out onto the waters, as well as good hiking around the banks.
