Just a few minutes' walk from the historical centre of Taormina, and the pedestrianised main street of Corso Umberto, Sicily's President Hotel Splendid is set on a promontory, with superb views over the Bay of Letojanni and the Calabrian coastline of mainland Italy in the distance.

This is a very special location. This Taormina hotel has been created within an old monastery, with 52 rooms furnished in ethnic style, with sea views, balconies or terraces, and all set in pretty gardens with Roman remains. The pool area is a delight, sitting within a suspended garden overlooking the Ionian Sea and up to Messina, where Sicily and the toe of Italy almost touch. The pool has a snack bar open 9am to 7pm ... it will be tempting never to leave the hotel!

There is a restaurant with panoramic view, expansive roof terraces with views onto the ocean, a lounge with piano and bar, two lifts/elevators, and a round-the-clock reception. Other services, on request, including baby sitting, laundry, air conditioning, garage and shiatsu massage. Rooms are a choice of double, triple or junior suites (two bedrooms with a bath). Head into Taormina itself to see the Greek Theatre and the Odeon, while the Archaeological Museum bears witness to Taormina's rich and long heritage - settled by the Greeks before the birth of Christ and then a Roman colony.
