Today, the town sits within its largely intact medieval defensive walls. The main square has a spectacular array of sights, with the cathedral and a quartet of medieval palazzi. And there are fine churches, notably San Fortunato and the Renaissance Santa Maria della Consolazione. Other sights include the ruins of the Roman amphitheatre, a number of Renaissance palazzi, castles, fortresses and some stunning countryside.
