Ripagrande Hotel, Ferrara
A superb fifteenth century palace, once the residence of the Counts of Beccari-Freguglia, this lovely old building has now been transformed into a four-star hotel in Ferrara. The Ripagrande Hotel has been created via a careful and skillful restoration, retaining the old arches, tapestries, marbles and columns of the palazzo.
The hotel has 40 rooms, 20 of them junior suites. All are furnished in a relaxed classical style, yet all boast the most contemporary of comforts. And this hotel in Ferrara has a superb location, right in the historical heart of the city. Sitting on Via Ripagrande, this downtown accommodation is within easy reach of the most important buildings in the central area - including the Castello Estense (the former seat of the Este family which ruled Ferrara throughout the Renaissance), the Cathedral, the Teatro Comunale, the Palazzo Schifanoia and many others. Set in a quiet, pedestrian area (much of the centre of the town is car-free) it makes for a relaxed base in this historic northern Italian city.
Rooms at this Ferrara hotel are air conditioned with private bathrooms, minibar, desk and lamp and direct phone. The Ripa Restaurant offers the best of Emilia-Romagna and Italian cuisine in a refined yet cosy atmosphere. And two magnificent, inner courtyards evoke the Renaissance grandeur of this town - once one of Europe's most creative and culturally developed courts under the Este dynasty.
