River Park Hotel, Ameglia

This hotel is situated in the village of Fiumaretta di Ameglia on the River Magra and overlooks the Ligurian Sea, a part of the Tyrrhenian. It offers an ideal base to explore the Italian Riviera and the interior, much of which is heavily forested and where the Apuan Alps provide the source for the highly-prized Carrara marble. The lively city of Genoa, some 80 kilometres up the coast, is the place to sample the best of Liguria's rightly renowned cuisine. Ten kilometres up the coast is the seaside town of La Spezia, a good place to relax at the harbour front and admire the yachts. Further north is Cinque Terre, five coastal villages stretched along the craggy coastline. They can be reached by train or ferry, though good walking trails also connect them. At a distance of 110 kilometres, Florence provides a good day trip.

Opened in 1993, The River Park Hotel has modern architecture and is built around an outdoor swimming pool set in gardens with a sun terrace and loungers; there is also a children's play area.
