Originally built towards the end of the nineteenth century for the Italian Royal family who would holiday here, the Villa Las Tronas, Alghero, Sardinia is magnificently situated on a totally private spit of land. The centre of Alghero itself, with its narrow cobbled streets and exuberant architecture, is just a short walk from the hotel.

This Sardinian hotel has 25 rooms including a number of suites, each individually decorated and furnished to an extremely high standard with carefully chosen pieces of antique furniture. Guests will enjoy the utmost in luxury here, with a beautifully appointed en-suite bathroom, a colour TV with cable or satellite channels, direct-dial telephone line, personal safe, minibar and the choice of a view over the gorgeous hotel gardens or out to sea. A delicious Continental breakfast can be served either in your room or downstairs in the enchanting breakfast room - a terrific way to start your day.

There is an ambience of old-world grandeur in the restaurant which offers guests a delightful menu full of Mediterranean flavour as diners look out onto panoramic views of the Gulf of Alghero - a beautiful stretch of Italian Mediterrean coastline. There is also an intimate bar which frequently has live music in the form of a pianist or a small ensemble. Families are particularly welcome here, with a reduced rate for under-12s, a babysitting service and a children's menu in the restaurant.

Nothing is too much trouble for the highly professional staff who are on hand 24 hours a day. There is a safety-deposit and left-luggage facility on reception as well as a laundry service, and transportation can be arranged to and from the airport. The hotel car-park has ample space for guests' cars and all major credit cards are welcome.
