The origins of the Villa Santa Maria in Foris go back to the 4th century AD and an ancient temple dedicated to ancient Roman hero, Hercules. Through the centuries, various important buildings have stood on this site, including a church and a noble villa, home to a line of noble families of Ravenna. In its present incarnation, Villa Santa Maria is now a cosy, intimate hotel offering its unique brand of warm Italian hospitality in a lovely historical setting. Ravenna has plenty to offer tourists with its gorgeous churches, world-famous mosaics and excellent museums.

There are just 13 simply decorated and attractively furnished rooms, each with its own name and individual style. All the rooms have their own private bathroom fitted with a shower and hairdryer and a range of complimentary toiletries, and in the room itself, guests will find a colour satellite TV with a DVD player, internet modem connection, direct-dial telephone, a little desk and lamp for reading or writing and a well-stocked minibar. Cots are available to families with young children and all rooms are accessible either by lift or by ground-floor access.

There is 24-hour service on reception, where guests will also find a useful left-luggage and safety-deposit service. Friendly staff are on hand to assist with local information and there is also a dry-cleaning and laundry service. The hotel has a range of bicycles which guests are invited to borrow free of charge for sightseeing excursions around the city centre. The Villa Santa Maria has its own inviting lounge bar where guests can get together over an aperitif or coffee in a relaxed, unhurried atmosphere. All major credit cards are welcomed.
