The handsome town of Salo is nearby, where Mussolini's short-lived republic was based during the latter days of Second World War.

Further south, there's the resort of Sirmione, which has the only mineral spring in Lake Garda. Alternatively, sports enthusiasts may want to head to Torbole on the northern shore to sample some of the range of water sports on offer. Or you could simply find a spot on a nearby beach and appreciate the scenery that has transfixed visitors for centuries.
